These lesson one suggested and recommended resources are more general in content and applicable to any and all mentoring discussions. Regardless of your level of training, you can dig right into these resources for yourself and/or with anyone you are walking alongside in any capacity.
Instruments in the Redeemer's Hands, by Paul Tripp. Considered a gold-standard book to read covering the basics of one-another care. Highly recommended.
How People Change, by Paul Tripp and Timothy Lane. Insightful and helpful for all mentors to understand the biblical dynamics of change in the human heart.
Because He Loves Me, by Elyse Fitzpatrick. Very encouraging teaching about the indicatives and imperatives and the need for 'both and', not just one or the other. Men, don't be turned off by the feminine cover - this book is helpful for all of us.
Remade, by Paul Tautges. Encouraging reading about our identity in Christ. We all benefit from that topic.
Dark Clouds, Deep Mercy, by Mark Vroegop. Very helpful and encouraging regarding suffering in general, and grief and loss specifically. Focus is on lament.
Gentle and Lowly, by Dane Ortlund. A beautiful book to read with a mentee that encourages us to know how much we are loved, and how God's promises and character address our struggles and suffering.
How Does Sanctification Work? by David Powlison. Consider how change occurs in your own life and you will understand how to help mentees change, too. Anything written by David Powlison is worth having in your library.
Learning to Listen, by Joe Hussung
Lesson Two, Care and Discipleship Mentor Training suggested resources:
The Gospel, by Ray Ortlund and 9 Marks. This is a good little handbook to have on hand when you are working with someone who doesn't yet have a strong grasp on a clear gospel.
Counsel From the Cross, by Elyse Fitzpatrick and Dennis Johnson. A helpful book that reaffirms the sufficiency of scripture for heart-change and, therefore, life-change.
Identity: Seeing Yourself Through God's Eyes, by Conrad Hilario. Insightful book to help a mentee who is unsure of their identity. This is laid out as a devotional book.

215 Things That are True of Me Now That I am Saved, a PDF by unknown author. Downloadable to print. This tool is helpful for saturating on scripture and as a devotional tool to remind us all that the gospel provides us in our identity in Christ.

The Beyond Suffering Bible (Joni & Friends, Joni Eareckson Tada). This is a great resource for addressing suffering of all kinds. This applies to all lessons and topics as a general resource.
Scripture and Counseling: God's Word for Life in a Broken World. This is a Biblical Counseling Coalition resource, written by various counselors, giving a good overview of how scripture applies to our mentoring.
Quick Scripture Reference Guide for Counseling. There are other versions of this specific to youth, women, and couples. They are shown on this link as you scroll down (be sure it says "Quick SCRIPTURE Reference Guide" because there are others there that are not recommended.) These are a great resource, highly recommended!
Bible Gateway ~ a free online bible study tool full of helpful content. This is a great tool to tell your mentees about as they learn to turn to God's Word for help, hope, and encouragement.
LOGOS Bible Software. This is a financial investment, well worth the cost. There are others that cost less, but this is Ellen's first choice and favorite study tool.

Behind the Veil, by Warren Lamb. This is an excellent book about Domestic Oppression and Abuse. There is a corresponding workbook for mentees as well.
Give Them Grace, by Elyse Fitzpatrick and Jessica Thompson. This is an excellent book for all parents.
