Wise Care: Walking Alongside During Life's Challenges
Become equipped to walk with women through life’s deepest challenges, with biblical wisdom, gospel hope, and discernment.
Every woman who mentors for long enough knows the moment: the conversation turns, and suddenly she is holding someone’s grief, fear, or secret. You don’t need every answer. But you do want to know how to stay, how to listen well, what to say and what not to say, and how to recognize when she needs more help than you can give.
Wise Care: Walking Alongside During Life’s Challenges is an advanced mentoring course for women who have completed foundational mentor training, or who already have some training and want to go deeper.
Written by a Certified Biblical Counselor and longtime mentor trainer, it prepares lay women to care wisely for others at a mentoring level, without pretending to replace professional counseling.
Twelve lessons cover:
•Aging, menopause, empty nest, and retirement
•Chronic illness and long-lasting suffering
•Mental illness, trauma, and PTSD
•Addiction, health journeys, and hard-to-break habits
•Suicidal thoughts, plans, and attempts
•Caregiving and severe parenting challenges
•Reproductive loss, reproductive trauma, and infertility
•Prodigal children
•Conflict, betrayal, and divorce
•Domestic abuse
•Spiritual abuse and church hurt
•Spiritual doubt, deconstruction, and long unanswered prayer
Every lesson follows four parts:
•Think Biblically: definitions, Scripture, the mentor’s role, and clear guidance on when to refer
•Apply the Gospel: the identity, grace, and hope Christ gives for this struggle
•The Heart: what may be happening beneath the surface, using a simple heart diagram, followed by a realistic case study to work through
•Learn from Their Story: biblical examples of people who walked this road
You’ll also find:
•Scripture to look up and questions to answer throughout
•Generous writing space and notes pages, designed as an 8.5 x 11 workbook you write in
•A “When to Refer” guide in every lesson, plus a one-page quick reference for crisis situations
•A personal referral list to build before you need it
•Encouragement to care for your own soul as you care for others
Use Wise Care on your own, with a friend, in a small group or women’s ministry training, or as the curriculum for Ellen Castillo’s online advanced mentor training cohort.
If you have ever wished you were better prepared for the harder conversations, this workbook is for you.
